Review of Fees and Terms*

This year the fees are as follows as approved by the ABYC membership:

Associate Membership: 348$ + HST ($174 + HST for spouse)

Keelboat Coop Membership: 1785 + HST (per person.)

All Keelboat Co-op Members must also be an Associate Member of the club.
The above Associate Membership fee and Co-op fee are due with your application.
A Co-op membership is a single membership, meaning all spouses/partners must fill
out their own application and pay their own set of fees if they wish to join and have
membership privileges (reserving and taking out a boat, etc.).

Required Work Hours*

There is a requirement of seven hours for boat maintenance such as waste pump-outs, thorough inside cleaning, thorough outside cleaning, bilge cleaning, fuel fills, launches, haulouts, etc. for our boats. These are just a few of the tasks necessary to maintain our six boats.
ABYC requires Associate members to work three hours around the club. The penalty fee for not completing the new work requirement of seven hours for the Co-op and three hours for your Associate Membership, will be billed at $65 an hour.

Program Terms*

In the current season after much discussion and consideration, it has been decided that a $250.00 (plus HST) fee will be required of new members to have a one-time ride check on Sea Key (or her replacement) and or Voila (defined as a supervised ride with a qualified instructor to confirm skill levels). Please refer to the Co-Op membership policy and procedure manual for guidance. If you are new to the ABYC Co-op membership please only pay for the $250 ride check plus HST for now. Once you have passed your ride check the balance of your membership will be due.

For new 2024 applicants the link will be up once we have our returning members registered.

There are additional fees for ride checks for each of the following Destinee and Enigma. These two boats require further qualifications. Delphinus requires you to have Intermediate Cruising or the equivalent. Members may be required to have further instruction.

New Member Program Terms*

New members there is a $250.00 (plus HST) fee required for a one-time ride check on Voila or (or per replacement) and or Adventure (defined as a supervised ride with a qualified instructor to confirm skill levels). Please refer to the Co-op membership policy and procedure manual for guidance. If you are new to the ABYC Co-op membership, please pay the $250 ride check plus HST through the adult education site for ABYC. For new 2025 applicants, here is the link to register for your ride check with an instructor.

There are additional fees for ride checks for each of the following boats, Destinee and Enigma. These two boats require further qualifications. Delphinus requires you to have Intermediate Cruising or the equivalent. Members may be required to have further instruction from our instructors as concerns regarding sailing competency issues arise. These issues could be sailing in conditions that are not advisable, solo sailing, damage to boats… to name a few.
New applicants are also welcome and encouraged to take an Adult Learn to Sail More Time course offered in June. These courses provide a great opportunity to brush up on your skills before taking the ride check. Registration for More Time courses can be found using the same link as outlined above.

**Note: In the event that a NEW Co-op member applicant fails their ride check, they will be fully reimbursed for the total amount of both the co-op and associate membership fees. **

Certifications*

Please remember that Transport Canada requires by law that the operator of a power vessel have Proof Of Competency. If you are the person in charge of the vessel, you are the operator. As such, you need to have obtained either Basic Cruising or a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. ABYC is in Toronto Harbour. The Toronto Harbour regulations require you to have your Power Vessel Operator Permit (aka the Harbour License). As the operator of the vessel and as a resident of the Harbour, if you get pulled over by the police, you will need to show them your proof of competency and your harbour license. ABYC also requires you to have your Basic Cruising and the Radio Operator Certificate (aka VHF radio) to be the operator of the vessel. We will ask you to send copy of Basic Cruising and ROC with your application. If you do not have Basic Cruising, please provide additional information demonstrating your boat handling proficiency for consideration. For those currently in the process of obtaining their Radio Operator Certificate, please let us know and we will see if temporary accommodation can be made. Send in your Radio Operator Certificate with your application. Send in your Basic Cruising or provide additional information demonstrating your boat handling proficiency for consideration.

Code of Conduct*

ABYC CODE OF CONDUCT
This section was initiated by the Board of Directors and presented to the General Membership for approval.
Accordingly, any amendments changing the intent of the policy must be ratified by the General Membership.

Principles: The club was formed in 1932 for the purpose of advancing the sport of yachting in all its forms. ABYC is a working club, which depends on the cooperation of all members for the maintenance of the club and its facilities and for ensuring an enjoyable communal environment for all members and their guests.
To this end, The Community has the right to:

Enjoy the facilities and programs of ABYC and the sport of sailing and boating in a welcoming environment;

Be treated with respect, dignity and consideration;

A civil and honest environment free from discrimination and harassment;

A place where all opinions are presented and considered with respect;

An environment where property is treated with care and maintained in a respectful way;

Be part of a community of sailors which abides by the rules, regulations and traditions of the sport; and

An environment where everyone feels safe both on and oﬀ the water.

The Community has the responsibility to:

Act in a civil, respectful and welcoming manner;

Behave ethically and honestly.

Maintain decorum;

Respect ABYC property and the property of others;

Observe the best practices and rules of sailing and boating;

Be mindful of their personal safety and the safety of others; and

To report when they observe, or are aﬀected by, any violation of the Code of Conduct.

Scope: This code applies to all members, guests, their children and staﬀ of ABYC: while on ABYC club property; when participating in an ABYC sponsored or sanctioned event either on or oﬀ the water; when utilizing reciprocal privileges aﬀorded to members at another club; or when representing ABYC. Members have the responsibility to inform their children and guests of appropriate behaviour and may be held accountable when children or guests violate these principles. Staﬀ should report any violations of the Code of Conduct to the Club Manager, who shall report to the Senior Vice Commodore. Members should report any violations of the Code of Conduct to the Senior Vice-Commodore.

Statement of Membership Liability Waiver and Acceptance of Fee Structure*

Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club (“Club”) shall not be liable for any damages arising from personal injury, property loss or damage, sustained by the Member in attending in the Club and using Club facilities. The Member assumes full responsibility for any personal injury, property loss or damage which may be sustained by the Member in, on or about the Club facilities and hereby fully and forever releases and discharges the Club, its directors (solely in their capacity as directors), agents and employees from any and all claims present and future, whether the same be known or unknown, anticipated or unanticipated resulting from or arising out of the Member’s use of the Club facilities, including but without limitation, any claims for personal injury, property loss or damage arising out of the negligence of the Club or any of its Members, agents and employees or any other persons using the Club facilities as Guests or invitees to the extent that such assumption of risk and waiver of claims does not discharge, release or relieve the Member’s insurance carriers under policies covering the Member or his/her property. If my application is accepted, I agree to honour my commitment above and to abide by the Club’s By-laws, Policies and Regulations including payment of all applicable fees and assessments. Everyone who operates a power-driven boat in Canada needs proof of competency - something that shows they understand the rules of the water and how to safely operate a boat.

Payments are due for Co-op membership and ABYC Associate membership in order to finalize this application.
All fees must be paid by April 8, 2025, for returning members.
We will open up the Co-op membership to new members at that point in time.
