We know that many of our members expressed challenges and frustrations with dock access and utilities due to the high water levels. Those levels were deemed exceptional two years ago but now look to be a recurring situation around our lakes. Even prior to hitting these high water levels, we knew our docks were aging, their electrical supply was insufficient, and annual maintenance becoming increasingly more demanding.
ABYC formed a Dock Replacement Committee to assess the condition of our in-water infrastructure and investigate opportunities for a course of action. Our committee is eager to share our findings with our fellow members at an upcoming Town Hall Meeting.
This Town Hall will be held on Thursday September 19, 2019 at 7:00 PM and will be an opportunity for members to understand the key issues and proposed solutions. This would be our largest investment project to date and will of course require a formal General Meeting vote before any actions can be taken. Some of the immediate questions the Committee will address at this information meeting will include:
- Can we continue to repair the existing docks instead of replacing?
- What would a replacement layout look like in our harbour?
- What kind of docks are we considering?
- Would this mean the electrical issues would be resolved?
- How big a project is it going to be?
- When would we start/finish?
- What does the cost and payment look like?
Our committee is already making excellent progress in the research and planning phase. Please plan to attend on the 19th to learn about the opportunities ahead and ensure your own concerns are heard.
