Suzi & Doug first performed as a duo in the 1980’s, playing clubs around Toronto like The Groaning Board, Fitzgerald’s and the Cafe on the Park. They regrouped after a 27 year break, playing clubs, concerts and festivals with an eclectic blend of jazz, blues, boogie-woogie, swing and a little rock ‘n roll to spice things up!
SUZI WESSON is a versatile actor/singer who toured extensively with Les Misérables, has trotted out her big band chops to sing with The Uptown Swing Band, and fronts The Dark Angel Blues Band, as well as being featured at Jaymz Bee’s Vocal Jazz Safari.
DOUG BALFOUR has played under the stage in the pit of shows like Sunset Boulevard and Phantom, on the stage music-directing Forever Plaid and Ain’t Misbehavin’, and has been behind the keys in great old rock ‘n roll bands like The Fridgidaires and he’s still rocking with Robbie Lane and the Disciples.
Veteran bassist BOB HEWUS is equally at home with jazz, blues, music theatre and pop. Bob’s resume includes performances at both the Stratford and Drayton Festival Theatres, and he has worked with a raft of Canada’s top musical theatre and jazz performers.
In addition to numerous live-streams in the past two years with Jazz in Toronto, over these past few months Suzi and Doug have played concerts at The Medley and The Golden Lake Fall Fiesta, were part of the lineup at The Lighthouse Blues Festival, and recently performed at Toronto’s Emmet Ray. After all these months of solitary, they are thrilled to be playing live music once more! They’re looking forward to an afternoon of music with you.
