You do not have to pay your fees at this time as your membership and certifications must be accepted before you may join. You must first pass a Ride Check test to ascertain if you are able to manage a keelboat. Once this has been done, then the fees for Coop Keelboat Membership and Associate membership must be paid.

Please note that you must be 18 years old to be a Coop Keelboat Member.

Please remember that Transport Canada requires by law that the operator of a power vessel have Proof of Competency. If you are the person in charge of the vessel, you are the operator. As such, you need to have obtained a Basic Cruising and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. ABYC is in Toronto Harbour. The Toronto Harbour regulations require you to have your Power Vessel Operator Permit (aka the Harbour License). ABYC also requires you to have your Basic Cruising and the Marine Radio Operator Certificate (aka ROC) to be the operator of the vessel. We will ask you to send copy of Basic Cruising and ROC with your application. If you do not have Basic Cruising, please provide additional information demonstrating your boat handling proficiency for consideration. For those currently in the process of obtaining their Radio Operator Certificate, please let us know and we will see if temporary accommodation can be made.

ABYC offers Adult Learn to Sail courses such as the Basic cruising courses along with other required certifications.

Fill out application and send to admin@abyc.ca

Once you have been accepted, with the submissions of your certifications, you must pay your fees with the Office at admin@abyc.ca. This proof of payment must be supplied to Coop Keelboat Lead. The admin@abyc.ca must approve that your certifications have been completed to accept your payment and refer you to the Co-op program.

There are 5 boats, and each boat has a Boat Captain who oversees the reporting of the maintenance and orienting those who use the boat during the summer. Each captain will have a list of maintenance jobs which the member can opt to do. A sixth boat becomes available in August as it is used for Adult learn to Sail program.

Once you have passed a Ride Check, your name will be placed on a reservation platform where you can book a boat in different slots of time. Only the boat you have been approved on a Ride Check enables you to book on the reservation platform.

Once you have been Ride Checked on the size of boat you will go through an orientation of the boat you have been approved on. This will include the operation of the engine and sailing pieces of the boat.

New co-op members are only allowed to sign out smaller sized boats of Voila and Adventure. Once the first year has been completed, they can have a ride check for the larger boats of Destinee and Delphinus. If they are interested in racing, then Enigma could be opted into.
